The Film Industry Is In Collective Shock After Sridevi’s Sudden Death
An outpouring of disbelief.
Sridevi, one of cinema’s most iconic heroines, passed away Saturday night due to cardiac arrest in Dubai.
According to sources, her body is being flown down to Mumbai (expected to arrive by 3 pm) and the last rites should take place tomorrow in the city.
Meanwhile, there’s been an outpouring on Twitter, with Sridevi’s co-stars, directors, colleagues, and other members of the film fraternity expressing shock, disbelief, and condolences over the unexpected death of one of cinema’s most-gifted actors.
Sri’s Sadma co-star, Kamal Haasan wrote:
Have witnessed Sridevi's life from an adolescent teenager to the magnificeint lady she became. Her stardom was well deserved. Many happy moments with her flash through my mind including the last time I met her. Sadma's lullaby haunts me now. We'll miss her

Shocked beyond words to hear about the sad and untimely demise of #Sridevi. A dream for many, had the good fortune of sharing screen space with her long ago and witnessed her continued grace over the years. Thoughts and prayers with the family. RIP 🙏🏻

Superstar @superstarrajini on #Sridevi : I have very few friends, she was one of them. I am disheartened today. I never saw her get angry at anyone. When she entered Bollywood, she did not know Hindi. And yet she made it so big. She was born to be a star.

Compelled at this unfortunate hour to be reminded of the age old idiom – चार दिन की चाँदनी, फिर अँधेरी रात … numb at this grave untimely loss. There never was, nor will there ever be anyone quite like you. What a profoundly sad night. #TheOriginalEverything #RIPSridevi pic.twitter.com/tH04Rgzj7C

Growing up in the 80’s meant #Sridevi was a part of life… dancing to her songs “mere hathon mein nau nau choodiyan hain”, “na jaane kahan se aayi hain” to “bijli girane mein hoon aayi” and so many more… her powerful performance in Sadma had an indelible impact on me…

There's nothing more heartbreaking than losing someone you look up to tremendously. Sridevi was the magic that made us believe in the beauty of cinema. Still can't believe she's no more. Darkest day for cinema. RIP #Sridevi pic.twitter.com/xuFwS9iq1B
